Coffee and newspaper for reading roundup post

Fingers crossed I wake up feeling better. Wednesday was my seventh day of illness in some form. Anyone else suffering with some sort of pre-spring bug?

Here’s a roundup of 10 or so more good reads for Thursday:

  • The U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, Mark Lippert, was in stable condition late Wednesday night after being slashed on the cheek and hand with a razor. His assailant was protesting joint military drills. (CNN)
  • Yay! The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is eliminating its iconic elephant acts by 2018 in response to public concerns about the animals’ welfare. (Associated Press)
  • With IU’s season on the brink, are  fans disappointed enough to raise the $11 million needed to buy out coach Tom Crean? (IndyStar)
  • Country megastar Shania Twain has announced her first North American tour in 11 years — which she says is her last. She’ll stop in Indianapolis in July. (WTHR)
  • Six are facing federal charges in the kidnapping of two siblings that court documents say was retaliation for their older sister’s theft of cash and drugs from a dealer she once dated. (IndyStar)
  • Before it melts, you’ve got to take a drive to see the Veal family’s ice tree. (WTHR)
  • The Ferguson, Mo., police saw residents as a source of revenue, according to the Justice Department’s scathing new report. (Washington Post)
  • An Indianapolis mother is outraged after her 6-year-old son was left to walk home through snow and busy traffic from the wrong bus stop. The boy’s adoptive father was struck and killed in 2014 after walking in a roadway due to deep snow. (Fox 59)
  •  Why Buzzfeed is the “most important news organization in the world.” (Stratechery)
  • A human head transplant is just two years away, claims one surgeon. This isn’t as impossible as it sounds — scarily. (CNET)
