Reading roundup: Duron Carter to Colts?, Pence backpedals, RIP Bela

Coffee and newspaper for reading roundup post

Brr! Temps sure dropped last night, but our highs today should be in the 30s, says the National Weather Service. I can deal with weather that’s “seasonable.” Just keep that snow away until Sunday!

Here’s a roundup of 10 or so links to get your Wednesday started:

  • Gov. Mike Pence said Tuesday that he soon will be “clarifying” what his Just IN news site will be doing and called reports on the plan an “understandable misunderstanding.” (IndyStar) | “Pravda on the Plains.” (The Atlantic) | My thoughts & more discussion. (Facebook)
  • The reporter who broke the story, Tom LoBianco, on Tuesday was named one of Indiana’s best political reporters by The Fix blog. (Washington Post)
  • Pence did get a win this week: The federal government OKd his plan to expand Indiana’s Medicaid alternative, called Healthy Indiana 2.0.  (IndyStar)
  • Meteorologists tweeted apologies after the “historic,” “crippling,” worst-case-scenario blizzard failed to materialize in New Jersey and New York City. (USA Today) | New England, however, got walloped in some spots by more than 2 feet of snow. (ABC News)
  • Report: Duron Carter, son of Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter, is expected to sign a contract with the Colts. (IndyStar)
  • Nooooo: Bela the German shepherd’s new lease on life was cut short by cancer. (IndyStar)
  • Michelle Obama didn’t wear a headscarf and sparked a backlash in Saudi Arabia. (Washington Post)
  • Snapchat and Twitter each unveiled new features Tuesday that encroach on each other’s turf: Snapchat released a “Discover” section for news content, while Twitter launched private group messaging. (PC World) | Twitter also got Neil Patrick Harris to send its first tweet using mobile video. (@ActuallyNPH)
  • Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are your new “Ghostbusters.” (HuffPo)
  • Next time I’m called on in class and stuck for what to say, I’ll take a page from the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch’s awesome news conference Tuesday: “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.” (HuffPo)
